Southern Spain

Our Spanish adventures continued in our summer, beginning with a refreshing few days in Menorca (massive thanks to our generous friends!!!!). We found hidden cove beaches with turquoise warm water and spent full days soaking up the sun! We also went into a nearby town for the day only to find the annual horse festival was on .... an amazing experience in which all of the local community were in the main street with the key attraction being a parade of 100’s of people riding horses ...well not just riding them... making them dance and then do tricks in the centre set to music with everyone cheering and local kids running alongside the horses...it really was a massive festival and party vibe.

Next stop was Seville... we had been hanging out to try the much talked about tapas bar scene and we were not disappointed. Needless to say, we hit it a bit hard....getting completely addicted to the notion of trying yet more and more cheap yet amazing tapas and wine at around 5 different bars...ending the night drinking Pedro Ximenez and eating tasty pork steak....the next day was pretty rough and the recovery very slow. We loved wandering the streets, soaking in the warm/boiling weather, and lapping up a pretty mesmerising visit to the Alcazar (intricately detailed and decorated palace).

On our drive from Seville to Granada we stopped off at a beach along the costa del sol coastline...we followed the map directions, pulled off the highway into a boring looking car park, walked under the highway which looked just as uninspiring as you would imagine only to suddenly pop out onto an amazing beach...a great pit stop choice. On to Granada, we just loved it here. The tapas challenge/quest was taken to a new level, with the norm being for bars to provide a free tapas with every drink, with this varying between bars and for each consecutive drink at the same bar. The food was outstanding... but the highlight that we are still dreaming about was a piping hot pork steak and Roquefort sandwich, which paired just amazingly with some local sweet sherry. We also found an amazing open terrace bar perched high on the hill, offering unbelievable views of the Alhambra... which itself was incredible, as you would expect.

Falling in love with the costa del sol coastline, we made a sneaky stop there just before our flight back to London, we swam and ate the freshest of seafood (the grilled squid was the best!), before having a classy ‘water bottle shower’ on the side of the road before going to the airport....totally worth it!
