Croatia - get oranged - topping up the tan!
Croatia provided the break we apparently so desperately needed - it’s only upon reflection that we can see it was incredibly timely and necessary.
We spent a night in Split, taking in the beautiful historic buildings and buying a plethora of tasty and perfectly right fresh fruit from the market (we have both really missed having access to intensely flavoured fresh fruit - somewhat hard to find in London).
We then headed to Bol on the island of Brac. Bol has a postcard famous beach known as the golden horn, and this is where our obsession with bobbing around for hours on end in our inflatable orange came to be. The water was quite chilly and the shore pebbly (another new experience for us - quickly discovering that the humble beach towel doesn’t cut it - you need padding!).
We next moved back to the mainland, driving up the coast to an island connecting to the mainland by a bridge to Murter. What a find... Murter has a great little local seaside town feel and we stayed in an apartment in a locals house with breathtaking views out across the water and olive grove. A real highlight was being here for some of Croatia’s successful World Cup games - the atmosphere was electric and you couldn’t help but be swept up in the local pride and excitement. We did a day trip the magical Krkr National Park... if you haven’t heard of it google it now - extremely beautiful even in the midst of a massive downpour and thunder storm as we experienced.
